The Pendulum has SWUNG

Quackmonkey2006

Dems sweep the House.

Dems just may- if you go with CNN's and other news outlet takes- have taken Congress to boot.

Thank-you, Howard Dean, for helping to save this country (and certainly my faith in its peopel).

Next steps? Let's just hope there are more action plans (3 party state? A full on handover? A last move shock and awe- then get the hell out?), solid growth moves, and just enough Congressional hearings. If we tie down everything with reviewing the past, we'll never move forward the way we need to, the way the Dems need to repay the voters' ballots.

I'm not sure the republicans are wrong.

Treason -
1) the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign.
2) a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.

It would depend on your definition of "overthrow" and/or "allegiance." The ruling class of all nations has felt that change would require overthrowing their rule and in effect is a violation of allegiance toward their rule. Republican's are the ruling class or at-least they think so.

As for being a Social Democrat, you should feel very at home in the US. The vast majority of US citizens would be classified as Social Democrats (Assuming you think Pseudo-Democratic Republics are in deed democratic). Not too many people have the courage to support true socialism, libertarianism, or authoritarianism so they just fall into the Social Democrat slot by default. I'm sure Jeff would argue otherwise but I'd bet he enjoys the benefits of US social policy as well as the rest of us.

That being said, just for the record, I am not saying that I am a Social Democrat.

Xero; Then I am a Social Democrat.g.

Republicans seem to believe that anyone who dares to disagree with them is a 'treasoner.'Never mind the fact that THEIR party ripped into the Constitution with a chainsaw and still wants to further destroy our rights. Ther REAL 'treasoners' are those within the Republican party who want to rule at any cost.

Might it be better that we read Cicero's statement as a road map and not a warning.

Viva La Revolucion!

Given your hatred of Bush, i understand your point. However it is the socialists that really want to change America. America has always been capitalist, you wish to change that. By definition, you are the enemy within. Not that your intentions aren't pure or even noble. It just is what is. I firmly believe that no democracy will ever vote in socialism. It will have to forced upon a thinking people.

Jeff, I think that (the Cicero quote) is the best description I have ever seen of Bush, the current administration and conservatives in general (good thing change is on the way).

Democratic Socialists do not necessarily believe in "marketism" or any other form of capitalism. You may be confusing Democratic Socialists with Social Democracy which are actually significantly different. Democratic Socialism is Socialism governed through Democratic process and not Authoritarian or dictatorial process.

The best quote I could find to illustrate this is from wikipedia (trust it or not): "Social democracy is often distinguished from democratic socialism on the basis that most social democrats would be content with a society that combined elements of capitalism and socialism, while democratic socialists still have the objective of establishing, by democratic means, a wholly socialist society with a socialist economic system."

And yes, Sanders has refereed to himself as a Democratic Socialist not a Social Democrat.

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”

–Cicero

The American people usually right their wrongs. They did it when they ousted Jimmy Carter- a good man, but a very bad President.
We have seen a LITTLE bit of justice for all the crimes and immoral acts perpetrated by the Bushites. They now suddenly want 'bipartisanship' after all these years of stomping on their Democratic victims.
They don't want to eat what they dished out. Bullies never do.

Democratic Socialists believe in "Marketism" whereby you have a free market and still maintain social programs for everyone instead of just the wealthy.

"Democratic Socialist".

I rest my case.

I have to agree, until bush is out of office I'm not going to believe real change has come. Of course I think the Democrats are but a slightly lesser evil so I don't expect that much change anytime soon.

I'm just glad to see we actually have an independent (a.k.a Democratic Socialist) senator, though I would have preferred it if he did not caucus with the Democrats. Multiparty politics may actually be obtainable (The Connecticut for Lieberman party does not count).

it's not 2008 yet! :P

I'm confused. I thought the Nazi Bush was going to prevent the election from occurring, or at least fix it so dems lost? Could it be the Left is wrong about him? I wonder what ELSE the left is wrong about... hmmm. Now we'll see.
