I guess you can pry his gun now...
I know, I know- another blogger eulogy of someone they've never met. This one is actually a bit more personal. A household hero, Charleston Heston, just passed.
My mom had quite a crush on him, I think. He had come to her elemetary (believe his autograph on a school pamphlet, in pencil, is floating around somewhere...Mom, if I happen to have this I will send to you!!!), so it started young. Every Easter, the 10 Commandments would play in our house. Every happenstance showing of Ben Hur. Later I would personally be a fan for much more low-brow fare- Planet of the Apes...Soylent Green...
R.I.P.- and chin up, Mom.

Thanks. I did have a crush on him at about age 13. I saw 'El Cid' and cried for about six days. ggg.
I also admired him for marching on Washington with the civil rights advocates. I had a picture from the newspaper with him, arm in arm with Burt Lancaster, Anthony Franciosa, Kirk Douglas and Michael Rennie. It startled me to know they all had the basic facial structure.
Later, a boy in my high school choir gave me two autographs- One was of a high school program where his father was principal. It was Charlton Heston's in pencil- and the Walt Disney one was on a piece of paper where the kid worked at Disneyland pushing the ice-cream cart.
As you stated- we lost both of them in the flood....
Marlene, your step-mother, lived across from Charlton Heston growing up- and her birthday is the same day.
84 is a good long life. I think both he and WE enjoyed it. The force be with him.
